Greetings! 30 years ago Towering Oaks Baptist School closed its doors for the last time. Although the school is closed, we can celebrate our time there, the friendships we started, and rekindle the fun memories of our high school era.
Join us for a reunion of ALL Towering Oaks graduates, former students, administrators, teachers, and coaches on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
The Pink Palace Museum will host our reunion with a semi-formal party beginning at 6:30pm on Saturday, June 27, 2009. We’ll have:
Q: Where do I send the money?
A: Send your check to Dana Osborn at 40 Sydney Circle , Somerville , TN 38068 . Make the check payable to Towering Oaks Reunion . On a separate piece of paper please include your name, graduating class (or years you attended) plus the name of the person joining you at the party.
Q: When is the money due to reserve our seats?
A: We need to receive your check no later than Wednesday, April 1, 2009
Q: I’ve got some neat pictures and memorabilia I’d like to share…who can I send it to?
A: If you’ve got photos you’d like to share, please scan them and email them to hwperry@juno.com. We’re creating a slide show of pictures and other school events from the 70’s that will be playing during the reunion. As for memorabilia, you better keep them…don’t want them to end up in a display at the museum!
Q: If I’ve got questions or need directions, who do I contact?
A: Although we’re sending out this invitation using emails, facebook.com, classmates.com, and the T.O. website; we can’t really check each one of those media on a regular basis. So, for updates, check toweringoaks.com. But if you really want to send an email; send it to me at hwperry@juno.com or to Dana Osborn at osborn1986@bellsouth.net.
So to review….. A reunion of ALL Towering Oaks graduates, former students, administrators, teachers, and coaches at The Memphis Pink Palace Museum, Saturday, June 27, 2009 / 6:30pm - $75 per person. We need to receive your check no later than Wednesday, April 1.

Many of you are aware that TO web site recently experienced some major difficulties due to a problem with our web host. Our original host disappeared on us several months ago and with no warning stopped responding or servicing our site. I am not exactly sure when this happened. But, if anybody submitted profiles or other information which was ignored, the problem was with our web host. It has taken some time, effort and money to repair the damage caused by our initial host but we now have a new host and are up and running again. I apologize to anybody who sent information that was ignored. Please resubmit any information that was ignored and this time we will take care of it.
On another front, due largely to the recent problem with the web site, I have been in email and contact with a number of TO alumni. Everybody I have talked wants to see a Towering Oaks reunion in 2008. The consensus seems to be that we ought to have a big “all-in” shindig open to everybody that ever attended TO. The idea I have heard tossed about is that we would have a two night function. One night we would get a large room for a school-wide function. The other night we would break up into smaller groups by graduating class. Depending on how ambitious the reunion planning committee is we could add other festivities like a golf tournament, family picnic, etc.
That sounds great, right? But, who is going to make it happen? We need a reunion planning committee. I will be glad to allow the TO web site to be used to post information and contact members and otherwise offer assistance. However, I am not a party planner and will not try to plan this one. What is needed is a group of brave souls to set up, take the bull by the horns, and make this reunion happen. In order to assist the planning committee and start to narrow the options down, I am asking for alumni input on a few general questions:
Would you prefer one big reunion for everybody or individual reunions organized by graduating class?
When is the best time to have a reunion in 2008? April? May? June? July?
Where is the best place to hold the reunion? Downtown Memphis? East Memphis?, Tunica? (Gasp! That would be weird but Tunica does have good facilities.)
Send me an email at briggs8949@bellsouth.net with you opinions. I will tabulate and post the results on the web site in the near future.
